A warm welcome for new £5million facility for St David’s Hospice

It was a pleasure to be at the ‘cutting of the turf’ event at St David’s Hospice in Malpas today; welcoming the construction of a new £5million specialist in-patient hospice. Health Minister Mark Drakeford AM was on hand to mark the commencement of work on the new unit.

The 15 bed facility, to be built next to the main St David’s Hospice building at Blackett Avenue in Malpas, will serve terminally-ill patients and their families.

The Welsh Government’s decision to invest in this new facility is a testament to the great work of staff and volunteers at St David’s Hospice. It was really pleasing to hear the Health Minister credit their valued work in Newport and across South East Wales, providing comfort and support to patients and their families in unimaginably difficult circumstances.

The new in-patient hospice in Malpas will allow St David’s Hospice to expand and develop their service to meet the growing demand for the first-class palliative care they provide.
