Apprenticeships Week at Newport City Homes

I joined Welsh Government Skills Minister Julie James AM on a visit to Newport City Homes’ Nexus House this week. The visit coincided with Apprenticeship Week – which runs from the 14th-18th March.

It was good to meet some of the talented apprentices at Newport City Homes. Apprenticeships offer a great pathway into the world of work, and provide huge economic benefits for the community. A recent report from the National Training Federation for Wales found that apprentices generate over £1billion for the Welsh economy annually, with a £74 return to the economy for every £1 invested in an apprenticeship. It’s important that we continue to support the roles of apprentices in society, and I’m backing Welsh Labour’s Assembly election pledge  to create 100,000 high quality all-age apprenticeships in Wales.

We have a strong record of high quality vocational learning in Wales, and apprentices have helped us generate record levels of inward investment; making Wales an attractive place to come and do business.
