It’s great news that the UK’s first proton beam cancer therapy treatment centre will open at Celtic Springs Business Park in Newport West. Construction work has begun at the site, which is expected to treat around 700 patients a year.
Proton Beam therapy has demonstrated positive results in lowering side effects of specialised cancer conditions.
It’s excellent that Newport will be home to this exciting new facility which will put the city – and Wales more widely – at the forefront of innovative developments in life sciences. I hope the new facility will benefit many thousands of cancer patients in the long-term – especially as it will mean patients will no longer have to travel abroad for this specialist treatment.
