Recent figures suggesting an increase in footfall at Newport, Rogerstone and Pye Corner stations is further evidence of the need for Newport-Ebbw Vale rail link.
Statistics from the Office and Rail Road show a 3% annual passenger growth at stations in Newport since 2012/13, leading to a combined rail footfall of 2,509,494 at Newport stations in 2014/15. The annual combined footfall at Gwent-based stations on the current Cardiff-Ebbw Vale rail line is over 800,000.
The three stations in Newport West are being used more and more every year. This growth in passenger numbers and the increase in footfall to our City Centre supports the need for Newport-Ebbw Vale rail link – something I will continue to campaign for. The evidence is overwhelming.
