I fully support the good work of ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ (SRTRC) in Newport.
SRTRC is an anti-racism charity which aims to combat prejudice by encouraging sporting role models to present an anti-racist message to young people and others. The charity will be hosting awareness events with Newport County on the 7th October, and with Newport Gwent Dragons on the 20th October.
Sadly the scourge of racism still exists in modern society, and in sport. For example, a recent report from the Football Associations suggested that 887 incidents of racism and other discriminatory abuse took place at all levels of the game in 2014-15.
It’s great to see Newport Gwent Dragons and Newport County sign up to SRTRC sessions and continue to support the work of the organisation. Racism has no place in a civilised society, and we must strive to send out a strong message that it will always be rejected here in Newport where there is a proud history of tolerance and respect between different cultures.
