I fully support the ‘Stop the Rot’ campaign against food waste. The campaign calls on UK supermarkets to publish their in-store and supply chain’s food waste data, and commit to reduce their own stores’ and manufacturing suppliers’ food waste by 30% by 2025.
It is shocking that an estimated third of the food produced globally is wasted – this has a massive environmental and social impact in terms of its effect on global hunger, water supplies, land use and climate change.
The Stop the Rot campaign highlights the fact that change needs to begin at home – in the UK alone businesses throw out over 7 million tonnes of food every year – and we need to put pressure on our largest food suppliers to act swiftly.
