I commend the Welsh Labour Government for its support for veterans in Wales, and welcome the recent announcement that the Welsh Government is engaging in a cross-ministerial review of new ways in which it can support serving and former military personnel and their families.
We owe our armed forces past and present a great deal of gratitude for their service and sacrifice. I welcome the Welsh Government’s commitment to ensuring that the most appropriate and up-to-date support for veterans and their families is readily available.
There are already excellent initiatives in place in Wales – including the specialised Veterans NHS service, the council tax reduction scheme for former and current service personnel and their families, and the Homebuy scheme, which supports widows and widowers of personnel killed in action. I look forward to seeing the Welsh Government continue to develop these projects, and build on its successful collaborations with local health boards, the MOD, and organisations like the Royal British Legion and SSAFA.
