I was really pleased to hear that two great Newport community organisations will be receiving significant funding boosts through the Welsh Labour Government’s Communities Facilities Programme.
Newport Credit union have received funding to move from their small office on Market Arcade to a larger facility in Newport Market Hall – supporting their goal to build its membership to 5,000 local people by 2017. Bettws in Bloom also received grant funding to provide a new support structure and roof for their facility on Lambourne Way; extending the lifespan of the building, reducing maintenance costs and improving safety. Both groups do excellent work in communities across Newport West.
Newport Credit Union are a superb organisation who put people before profit at all levels of their operation, offering ethical financial services and financial education programmes. In an era when large pay-day loan companies dominate airwaves, the community-based approach of Newport Credit Union has never been more needed.
Bettws in Bloom do great work alongside Communities First, Newport High School and local groups and clubs to improve the environment and recreational opportunities in Bettws. This funding award is a great credit to the volunteers at Bettws in Bloom who care passionately for their community.
A big well done to both groups on securing this excellent source of Welsh Government funding.
