Jayne Bryant MS Encourages us to Celebrate Local Heroes

Nominations are now open for the 2025 GAVO Volunteering Awards. Volunteers are the backbone of community life across Wales, playing a vital role in supporting charities and community groups. In Newport, the Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO) supports and champions hundreds of these local groups.

Chair of GAVO Edward Watts and Chief Executive Stephen Tiley recently met with Jayne Bryant MS and local representatives to share their vision for the future and highlight the work being done to support communities across Newport.

A key date in the calendar for GAVO is the annual GAVO Volunteering Awards, an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the individuals and organisations making a real difference in their communities.

Nominations for the 2025 GAVO Awards are now open. Residents are encouraged to put forward outstanding volunteers or community groups based in Newport who go above and beyond every day to support others.

Jayne Bryant, Senedd Member for Newport West said: “Volunteers are at the heart of our communities. The GAVO Awards are an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of people who give their time to help others. Those who go above and beyond.”

“I encourage everyone in Newport to think about those unsung heroes in their community and take a moment to nominate them for this year’s awards.”

The deadline for nominations is 5pm on Friday 25th July 2025.
