£1 bus fares for 5-15-year-olds in Newport
This week the Welsh Labour Government have extended their budget bus fare scheme to include 5–15-year-olds in Wales. Young people can access £1 single bus fares and £3 day tickets.
Nearly a quarter of a million affordable journeys have already been unlocked for young people in Wales, as 16-21-year-olds have been eligible for the scheme since September.
Unlike 16-21-year-olds, 5-15-year-olds in Wales will not need to apply for a MyTravelPass to access £1 single fares and £3 day tickets.
Local Welsh Labour MS for Newport West, Jayne Bryant, said: “The expansion of reduced bus fares from our Welsh Labour Government will better connect even more young people across Newport”
“Travelling to school, to after school events and to meet friends and family should be easy and accessible for everyone.”
“Transport costs shouldn’t be a barrier to young people achieving their goals or their ability to explore Wales.”
£1 bus fares are being introduced as part of a Welsh Labour priority to provide better transport for people in Wales. Offering a low cost bus services will support a cleaner, greener community in Newport and across Wales.
