Environment and recycling topic of conversation as Jayne Bryant MS meets Newport pupils

Jayne Bryant MS, Member of the Senedd for Newport West, recently visited Gaer Primary School, St Woolos Primary School, and Tredegar Park Primary School, and met with pupils at Caerleon Comprehensive School ahead of, and during, their visit to the Senedd.

The visits were an opportunity to talk directly with young people in Newport about what is most important to them and how they can help shape their futures.

One clear message came through from the youngest members of our community: the environment, and treating Newport with respect, are most important to them.

With Wales currently ranked among the top five countries in the world for recycling, it’s reassuring to know that our collective efforts are making an impact statistically and inspiring the next generation.

Difficult decisions have been made in both Newport and across Wales to prioritise sustainability, and this recognition reflects the ongoing commitment from our communities, Newport City Council, and our schools.

Speaking about the visits, Jayne Bryant MS said: “It was a pleasure to visit these fantastic schools and speak with such thoughtful and passionate pupils.”

“Their ideas and enthusiasm for tackling environmental challenges are truly inspiring. I’m proud of the role Newport schools are playing in shaping Wales’ goals for a greener future.”

“I want schools to know that they’re always welcome to invite me for a visit, or to arrange a trip to the Senedd.”

“Hearing from our young people is so important to me, and I look forward to continuing these conversations.”

Jayne received a very thoughtful book and illustration during her visit to St Woolos Primary School, which was followed by an invite to explore the ‘City of the Future’. A creative model designed and built entirely out of recycled materials by talented pupils. Each a reminder of the power of creativity and the importance of nurturing young minds.

These visits offer an opportunity for pupils to learn more about the work of the Senedd, their local MS, and the power of their voices.
