Supporting Veterans and Their Families Across WalesÂ
The Welsh Government is committed to supporting veterans and their families, helping them access opportunities, recognition, and support services. Cabinet Secretary Ken Skates met veterans and their families in Shotton, attended a Welsh Government-sponsored Armed Forces Employer conference in Cardiff, and visited a jobs fair with 49 employers and over 140 service leavers and veterans. Ken Skates said: “This time of year is an important opportunity to remember and honour those who have died or been injured in the line of duty in the defence of the United Kingdom.”Â
He welcomed the UK Government’s additional funding for the Reducing Veterans Homelessness programme, saying: “We will work with the UK Government so this benefits veterans in Wales.” Ken also highlighted the draft UK Bill to establish an Armed Forces Commissioner, representing service personnel across Wales and the UK. “I have been engaging with UK Ministers over support for veterans and will continue to do so,” he added. These efforts will ensure that veterans and their families in Newport and across Wales continue to receive the help, recognition, and opportunities they deserve.Â
