I was proud to attend the official opening of the new Minor Injuries unit at the Royal Gwent Hospital with Cabinet Secretary for Health Vaughan Gething.
Since opening on 23rd December, the unit has seen over 17,000 patients, reduced waiting times for people at A&E and made a huge difference to patients and staff.
The Neo-Natal unit has also re-opened following some state-of-the-art refurbishment. The new unit has far more space for staff to work in, and for families to spend time with each other at what can be a difficult time. I’m incredibly proud that the mortality rate at the Royal Gwent hospital has been consistently lower than the UK average for several years, and grateful to all the hardworking staff that make this possible.
